Maintenance of a Wooden Chair
Easy Medium Hard
Basic carpentry and painting skills.
Experienced 20 min.
Handy 40 min.
Beginner 1 hr.
(1 wooden chair)
Materials
Wood preservative with varnish, sandpaper and dry cloth
Tools
Finger roller, oil paint brush.
The layers of varnish to be applied depends on the type of wooden furniture. After applying the first layer we should wait
24 hours for it to dry. If required we can apply the second layer once the chair dries.
For furniture with breaches or rotten wood we can fill the holes with a colored wood filler.
While painting, we should apply the paint towards the direction of the pores (the streaks). This way, the pores absorb the
paint better and results in a homogenous color.
For the maintanence of our wooden furniture we should use wood preservative with varnish. This will protect our garden furniture
from mould, fungus and termites.
1.
Sanding the wooden garden chair: Before we begin sanding, let’s wipe the dust of our chair. Then sand the chair, until you remove all the small amounts of
material from its surface such as old paint. This will help the varnish look clean and smooth.
2.
Applying wood preservative with an oil paint brush: After sanding we should wipe the dust off from our chair again. Then, let’s use an oil paint brush to apply the wood preservative
with varnish to places where the finger roller will not fit.
3.
3. Applying wood preservative with finger roller: Let’s begin using the finger roller, to apply wood preservative with varnish to all other remaining parts of the chair.
